TOM MORELLO On AUDIOSLAVE: 'I Still Haven't Heard From CHRIS CORNELL'

April 25, 2007

Launch Radio Networks reports: Former AUDIOSLAVE singer Chris Cornell told MTV.com earlier this week that his relationships with the rest of the band remain "affable." But guitarist Tom Morello told Launch that he's still somewhat mystified about the manner in which the band ended its four-year run. "I still haven't heard from Chris Cornell, frankly, that he quit the band, you know? (laughs) A friend of mine told me there was a press release," he said. "You know, Chris I consider a good friend and I love that guy, you know, and we went through a lot together, both musically and personally. And it was, you know, my belief that the band's friendship and roots were deep. But, you know, AUDIOSLAVE went away, but we've got THE NIGHTWATCHMAN and RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE, so I think that that's probably more than a fair trade."

Cornell left AUDIOSLAVE earlier this year due to what he called at the time "irresolvable personality conflicts as well as musical differences." He'll release a solo album titled "Carry On" on June 5.

Morello issued his first solo album, called "One Man Revolution", on Tuesday (April 24) under the alias THE NIGHTWATCHMAN.

RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE will perform as a band for the first time in seven years this Sunday (April 29) at the Coachella Festival in Indio, California, and has three more shows lined up this summer on the Rock The Bells tour.
